Over the last weekend, our CTO modified an innocent looking standard wall clock to achieve a mysterious glow-in-the-dark effect. The UV light can be controlled via our existing home automation system, which is accessible via Apple Watch (as seen in the demo).
The result is simply stunting. The video does not do justice as camera doesn’t play nice with UV light.
To give you an idea of the actual effect: Remember when you are in a bar/club and your bright clothes simply glow brightly? This is the exact effect we have achieved.
The tech details:
– We added UV LED strip to the inner ring, this can be easily source from your local hardware store or Aliexpress
– Painted the clock hands with phosphorescent materials (a.k.a glow-in-the-dark), again sourced from Aliexpress
– Incorporated a Fibaro RGBW Z-Wave controller at the back to have it controllable & dimmable
– Link it up to Apple HomeKit via NodeRED which is the backbone of our home automation system.
